Walking & Cycling

Gateway 14 is within walking or cycling distance of the rest of Stowmarket including the Railway Station and other amenities. It is also possible to reach parts on Stowupland and Needham Market by bicycle.

Walking

Walking is a great way to get about and has multiple health benefits. Did you know it is recommended that adults should get 150 minutes of exercise per week? Walking is the easiest way to achieve that.

Parts of Stowmarket lie within a 30 minute walking distance of Gateway 14 including Cedars Park, parts of the Coombs Ford area, and local amenities including Stowmarket rail station and Tesco Superstore.

The pedestrian and cycle links to/from the Gateway 14 site provide a high quality connection to the pedestrian facilities within the adjacent Cedars Park and to Stowmarket including access to rail and bus services.

If you’re looking for somewhere to visit on your lunchbreak, there’s a Costa Coffee and McDonalds only a 5 minute walk or 2 minute cycle ride away!

  • The Ramblers: The Ramblers Association provides a variety of regular programmes of walks. For walks around Suffolk and more information, visit their website.
  • Open Street Map â€“ A great site for those looking or finding footpaths around their area.
  • Discover Suffolk â€“ The Discover Suffolk website suggests walking routes across the county. There is also an app available for IOS and Android devices.

Cycling

The centre of Stowmarket and Stowmarket Railway Station is just a 10 minute cycle ride away from Gateway 14, whilst Needham Market is a 16 minute cycle away.  The whole of Stowmarket and Stowupland is within a 5.0km distance of the site, thus a suitable cycle distance for most able-bodied people.

There is a Tesco superstore just a 3 minute cycle away, and Cedars Park Community Centre is a 5 minute cycle. Also, if you are dropping off your kids to nursery before work, Busy Bees Nursery is only a 2 minute cycle ride from Gateway 14.

The existing cycleway/footway on the north side of Gun Cotton Way provides links to the cycleway/footway on Navigation Approach which leads towards the centre of town.

There is also the National Cycle Route 51 from Colchester to Oxford which runs through Stowmarket.
