Travel Plan Coordinator Role

A Travel Plan Coordinator (TPC) is appointed by a developer to create and implement a Travel Plan for a development over an agreed timeframe, typically called the ‘monitoring period’. Throughout the lifetime of a Travel Plan, the TPC is responsible for delivering a variety of measures in order to achieve sustainability targets. Measures often include, but are not limited to: issuing welcome vouchers, delivering Personal Travel Plans, creating newsletters, analysing travel survey data and traffic monitoring data to understand behaviour change, conducting site audits to monitor conditions and reporting to the council, annual Travel Plan updates, delivering events to local communities and launching new services, such as bus routes and micromobility services. Our goal is to help people shift away from vehicles to more sustainable travel modes, such as walking and cycling, wherever possible.

A significant part of the TPC role is reviewing planning applications and relevant documents such as Transport Assessments, Decision Notices, Section 106 Agreements, Section 278 Agreements, council guidance documents and relevant legal policies to determine the bespoke requirements of each development. Therefore, attention to detail is paramount for a TPC role, to be able to understand and adapt to relevant documents over time.

Marketing is also a big part of the TPC role to help people change their behaviour, researching the latest travel updates and disseminating information to residents and/or employees within a development, to ensure people can make informed travel decisions. A TPC is responsible for creating bespoke Travel Information Packs, promoting vouchers and Personal Travel Planning services, creating newsletters, writing travel surveys and more. An interest in marketing and behaviour change theories is therefore desirable for a TPC role.
