Consultation on the draft revised text of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) is open for response through to 11:45 pm on the 10th May 2018.

The 2017 Budget included proposals to change planning policy and legislation to bring forward more land in the rightful places. The current consultation seeks to obtain views on these additional proposals.

Having taken a look at the draft document, we think it’s great to see an increased emphasis and focus on sustainable development. It appears that there is more focus on the importance of sustainable travel throughout the country, in particular, it is highlighted that developments should provide for high-quality walking and cycling networks and supporting facilities such as cycle parking.

Section 9 of the proposal pays particular attention to the promotion of sustainable transport. It highlights that transport issues should be considered from the earliest stages of plan making. Also, it emphasises that opportunities to promote walking, cycling and public transport are identified and pursued. Significant development should be focused on locations which are or can be made sustainable, through limiting the need to travel and offering a genuine choice in transport modes.

It should also be noted that all developments that are expected to generate a significant amount of movement should be required to provide a Travel Plan.

You can take a look at the draft document here and provide a response by completing this form and returning it to [email protected].
