Fall in love with your commute!

Fall in love with your commute this February

This February, don’t worry about the cards and chocolates. Instead, choose to fall in love with your commute! Your commute doesn’t have to be seen as the worst part of your day anymore, with our top tips below, you’re sure to fall in love with your commute in no time.

Walk to work: there are tonnes of physical & mental health benefits!

Walking to work gives you the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from your commute. You’ll breath in the fresh air and discover new places, then once you’ve reached work you’ll feel motivated and energised for the day ahead. Walking your commute also gives you the chance to enjoy a bit of ‘you time’ before the busy day begins, you’ll see your physical and mental health improve immediately!

Public transport: use your commute time productively

Commuting by public transport such as a bus or a train can free up some time in the morning. What’s best is that you can choose to spend this time however you want! You may wish to just relax and zone out (or even have a nap) before you tackle the stresses of work or you may want to use this time productively meaning you’ll have more time in the evenings and at weekends. If you’ve got a smartphone there’s no limit to the tasks you can complete on your commute such as paying bills, ordering a birthday present, booking an appointment or organising a get together!

Cycling: an easy way to get fit for summer

It’s recommended that adults get 30 minutes of exercise a day, cycling to work can help you hit that target and feel more motivated in the process. Cycling to work will also save you time and money when compared to driving everyday as you’ll be able to skip past all of the traffic! Commuter cyclists often report higher levels of motivation, happiness and life-satisfaction. If you’re worried about the cost of a bike, check out Cyclescheme.

Car sharing: make new friends and save money

Car sharing helps you save money and reduce CO2 emissions whilst making a very small change to your commute. Simply sign up to Liftshare and advertise as a driver to give someone a lift to work. So many people live and work within the same areas meaning they are doing a very similar commute yet all travel on their own, this doesn’t really make sense, if everyone shared with one person the traffic would reduce dramatically and everyone could get to work quicker!

Other ways to enjoy your commute…

If none of the above are suitable for you, there are other ways you can reduce the amount and impact of your travel. If you work for a company that are quite flexible, it may be possible to work from home one day a week or change your working hours so that you’re travelling out of peak times. There’s no harm in asking, especially if you explain you want to benefit the environment!
