As most people probably know now, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) comes into effect on 25th May 2018. This regulation aims to keep you in control of your data.

We (Smarter Travel Ltd) shall hold the minimum personal data necessary to enable us to perform our functions due to legitimate interests and in addition to this, all data stored is confidential and treated with the greatest care. We take compliance with GDPR, and the protection of your personal information very seriously. Any data stored is password protected with limited access rights.

What data do we store?

But what does this really mean for you? Well, if you’re a resident of one of the developments that we are looking after;

We only hold data about you that you have provided directly, which is most likely to be through completing one of our Residential Travel Plan surveys, requesting a Personal Travel Plan or claiming vouchers from us such as bus or train tickets. The data we store would include the following information; your name, your address, your email address, postcode of your regular destination, number of dependents and whether you have a disability that could affect your travel choices.

When we use your data

We will only then use your personal data in the following way(s):

• Contacting purposes where the individual has won a prize;

• Issuing of Travel Plan incentives such as bus tickets or bicycle vouchers; and

• Responding to any queries from data subjects, either by phone, email, letter, website or through social media channels.

In some circumstances, your personal information may need to be shared such as when using bike register kits or when we provide you with Personal Travel Plans through LiftShare.com (only when requested). However, we will never pass your information onto third parties without your consent. We do not undertake any direct marketing so you will not be signed up to any mailing lists and we will only contact you as and when necessary.


We will shortly be updating our privacy policy in accordance with the new rules and it will be published on our website for your reference. However, in the meantime, if you have any queries then please contact us. Additionally, under Article 17 of the GDPR, you have the ‘right to be forgotten’ and your personal data erased.
