To reduce the reliance on travelling by car, why not use public transport for short local trips to places such as Felixstowe?

Buses

There are multiple options to travel by bus from Walton Gate.

The First Bus 75 service Frequently and regularly departs along High Road and High Street, linking you with Felixstowe, Ipswich, and Woodbridge. The buses stop in Felixstowe town centre making it easy to access the Port of Felixstowe. Full service information can be found on the First Buses website which is updated regularly.

Park & Ride

If you travel to Ipswich every day or even just on the odd occasion, it might be worth trying the Park & Ride service. This provides a great alternative to driving and trying to park in the centre of town. With two sites located on the outskirts of Ipswich, the Martlesham site would be most suitable when travelling from Walton Gate.

Trains

Trimley train station is just a 15-minute walk from Walton Gate, with hourly services into the centre of Ipswich and Felixstowe, you can download the timetable here. There are limited facilities at Trimley station – with just six car parking spaces and seven bicycle storage spots. You could alternatively catch the train from Felixstowe station which provides more facilities.

Railcards are a great way to save money on train travel. Many people can apply for one with different options such as;

PlusBus

Use PlusBus as a cheaper way to get around areas such as Ipswich by coordinating unlimited local bus travel when purchasing your train ticket. This can be done on the Greater Anglia website, or direct with PlusBus.
