Community Transport

There are a selection of local incentives to promote travelling by public transport, for community transport providers across Suffolk, head over to the Suffolk County Council website for full details.

✔ Endeavour Youth Card – a free smart travel card for 16 to 19 years olds offering a minimum of 25% discount off the price of full adult fares on participating services like Stephenson’s buses.

✔ Senior Bus Pass – for those aged 65 or over you’re entitled to a bus pass that allows free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England.

✔ Disabled Persons Bus Pass – people with eligible disabilities are entitled to free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England.

Apply for either of these bus passes online at suffolkonboard.com , call 0345 6000659 or pick up an application form from your local Suffolk County Council office or library.[/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Public Transport Alternatives” style=”fancy”]If you are unable to travel by conventional public transport (i.e. due to location or severe mobility impairment) you could be eligible to receive travel vouchers to assist with the cost of community transport services. Contact your local council, West Suffolk District Council, for details on how to obtain these vouchers or head over to suffolkonboard.com. In addition to the above, The Voluntary Network provides details about a variety of community transport options including:

Dial-a-ride, a local door-to-door transport service using easy access minibuses. The service operates Monday to Friday, from 8.30am-4.00pm. All passengers need to be members, for a membership pack and more information, call 01638 608022.

Community Car Services such as ‘Wheels Within Wheels’, provides a wheelchair accessible vehicle for hire. The vehicle can be used by groups and individuals who can supply their own driver, although there are some volunteers who are able to drive the vehicle, subject to availability. The vehicle is based in Newmarket and available 7 days a week. Call 01638 608022 for more information.

Connecting Communities – This is a not-for-profit service, set up to allow people without suitable access to public transport to make the journeys they want. Connecting Communities can only be booked for medical appointments only. To book or find out more please call: 0345 600 0659
